Harland Clarke is pleased to announce updated University content released Wednesday, April 15, 2009. The completely revised and updated Teller Training Program will replace existing courses in 30 days.
Generally when a course requires an extensive update, the existing course is retired when the new course is released and 30 days notice is provided before the change. Due to the changes in regulations associated with the Teller Training Program, the revised courses will be released immediately and the existing courses will continue to be available for 30 days. This will allow students with existing course assignments to complete their scheduled training before the course is retired and removed from your campus on May 8, 2009.
Existing Teller Training Program courses, will be marked RETIRED and remain on your campus for 30 days. Due to the changes in this program, we highly recommend that you begin using the updated courses for training immediately.
The Teller Training Program has been completely revamped and updated to reflect the changing needs of financial institutions in today’s financial environment. The new Teller Training Program is now comprised of six courses, with several lessons contained in each. The following outlines the specific additions, enhancements and/or modifications contained in each course:
Overview of Financial Services: In this course, students are given an overview of the financial services industry, including general product knowledge, the different types of financial institutions in the market today, and the basic operations of a typical financial institution. It contains two lessons which clearly define the important elements tellers need to know whether they are new or just need a “refresher” course.
Your Role as a Teller: We have combined and expanded several lessons available in the existing program to create this course, as well as the addition of other relevant material. The course is now designed to be a comprehensive approach to helping a teller communicate to internal and external members/customers appropriately and effectively. In this course, students will be introduced to some of the most critical skills needed for their role as a teller. There are four lessons which cover the following topics: Teller Expectations (expectations and standards for tellers at your financial institution), Effective Communication Skills for Tellers, Focus on the Member/Customer, and Sales Techniques for Tellers. We have also added a Functional Application lesson to this course for students to test their knowledge of what they have learned in scenarios based on “real life” situations.
Cash and Cash Handling: This course builds on the existing course and provides more updated, enhanced, and interactive material. It contains two lessons which deal with identifying and counting currency and handling cash. We have also added a Functional Application lesson to this course for students to test their knowledge of what they have learned in scenarios based on “real life” situations.
Negotiable Instruments: This is a newly designed course that contains two lessons that specifically address handling checks and other negotiable instruments. The course contains new and updated Lesson Reviews, and a new Course Review and Coaching Activity as well as a Functional Application lesson for students to test their knowledge of what they have learned in scenarios based on “real life” situations.
Dealing with Non-Threatening Security Conditions: With the heightened need for security programs in the financial industry, we have created two separate courses to discuss various security risks faced as a teller. There are three lessons in this course that focus on non-threatening security conditions potentially facing tellers, such as: counterfeiting, forgery, and check kiting and split deposits. In each lesson, we have provided interactive ways to test the student’s knowledge and create general awareness of potential issues. We have provided general information about each area, with the instruction for students to ask for more specific direction based on their financial institution’s policies and procedures. A Functional Application lesson to this course is included for students to test their knowledge of what they have learned in scenarios based on “real life” situations.
Dealing with Threatening Security Conditions: We have designed this new course to focus on threatening security conditions facing tellers in today’s financial environment. There are two lessons which address robbery and other threatening conditions, such as bomb and fire threats and kidnapping. We have provided general information about each area, with the instruction for the students to ask for more specific direction based on their financial institution’s policies and procedures. It also includes a Functional Application lesson for students to test their knowledge of what they have learned in scenarios based on “real life” situations.
Certification Exam: We have updated the Certification Exam to contain questions from all new courses. Additionally, we have expanded the pool of questions to 100, but it will randomly choose only 50 questions for the exam.
Updated courses will replace existing courses on May 8, 2009. Please note that new courses have different course code number and existing courses are marked RETIRED.
The new Teller Training Program is currently available. The update did not affect learning or testing in any other areas of the University.
We continually strive to bring you new and exciting course content that adds value to your learning experience. Look for continuing updates throughout the year.
We hope you enjoy this addition to the University. Please contact hes_support@harlandclarke.com if you have any questions regarding this update.
